British number one Andy Murray has withdrawn from a tennis tournament after injuring a nerve in his bottom whilst he was sleeping.

The world number three revealed that he has hurt his sciatic nerve in his right buttock overnight on the night of Monday 31 October. He woke the next morning unable to walk properly, and a visit to the doctors confirmed that he had damaged a nerve.

Murray was due to play in the Swiss Indoors Competition in Basel, with his first match against the Dutch player Robin Haase, but withdrew to recover. He was also due to play in a doubles game at the tournament alongside his brother Jamie.

He hopes to be able to play in the Paris Masters and ATP World Finals, which both take place at the end of November.
